Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT)
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy (psychotherapy) to help people who experience very intense and unpredictable emotions.
If you are referred for DBT, you will start with 4 sessions where you and your therapist will decide whether DBT is the right therapy for you. There are known as pre-commitment sessions.
If you are accepted to the programme, you will receive 6 to 12 months of individual and group therapy.
Family Connections
We provide family education through the 12 week Family Connections programme. This is available to whānau who want to learn more about helping their whānau member with:
- emotion regulation
- relationship difficulties
- avoiding harmful coping strategies.
Referral information
This service is available to people in Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti and the Hutt Valley.
You can only be referred for DBT by your local MHAIDS community mental health team.
