Mental health support in general hospitals
If you are in hospital being treated for a physical health condition, you can also receive mental health support from our psychiatry service.

Services we provide
Our hospital psychiatry service is based at:
- Wellington Regional Hospital
- Hutt Hospital.
The team provides:
- mental health consultations and assessments while you are in hospital
- advice and treatment recommendations to hospital staff who are caring for you.
Our team is made up of:
- psychiatrists
- doctors training in psychiatry
- mental health nurses
- a psychologist.
Treatments and support we provide include:
- advice and support to hospital ward staff
- mental state and cognitive testing
- working with other mental health services involved in your care
- support with referring you to external services for ongoing treatment and support for mental health.
The service is available weekdays during business hours.

You need to be referred to our service by a clinician.
