A new BreastScreen Aotearoa online system — Te Puna is now live in the Midland, Central and Te Waipounamu regions

The new BreastScreen Aotearoa system called Te Puna* will make it easier to enrol and book for free breast screening appointments.

The system is supplied with participant information from a combination of sources including National Health Index (NHI). It will:

  • enable more women to join the free national breast screening programme by automatically identifying who is eligible
  • let women who are already enrolled know that they are due for their mammogram
  • provide an online option for arranging enrolling and booking.

By reaching more people, we aim to increase screening participation and save more lives from breast cancer through early detection.

*The name of the new system — Te Puna, translates to ‘the spring’ and was gifted to the programme to reflect the purpose of the BreastScreen Aotearoa programme to protect the life and health of wāhine.
