We offer a diverse programme across our DHB with placements in Waikato hospital as well as the four rural hospitals – Thames, Taumurunui, Te Kuiti and Tokoroa.

Primary health care is an annual feature in our programme also  - general practice, district nursing and public health nursing  generally have positions each year with other providers participating when positions are available, for example Plunket, iwi providers and Corrections.

All NESP positions are in Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre on the Waikato hospital campus.

We are big enough to offer variety and opportunities. But we are also small enough that you don't become just a number.

Our programmes will support you to learn what it is to be a professional registered nurse, learn a lot of new clinical skills as well as get to apply your assessment knowledge. We also focus on developing your thinking skills to support the decisions you need to make in practice wherever you are working. ou will work alongside experienced registered nurses and nurse educators, practice in world-class facilities - and yet live somewhere that doesn't have world-class traffic jams!

You can really progress your career development in Waikato DHB. We support you in your ongoing postgraduate education and have a managed process to link you into second-year employment.

Who we are

Our role is to recruit, educate and retain registered nurses in Waikato District Health Board. We coordinate NETP and NESP recruitment working with ACE.

We aim to provide a friendly, accessible environment where you can get your questions answered and support and guidance for issues or concerns.

It's a busy environment in a large, complex DHB - but we will find the time and space to get to know you, help you and make you feel at home.

We are responsible for:

  • New graduate registered nurse orientation to the DHB
  • Providing you with a trained preceptor/s
  • Delivering an education programme for new graduate registered nurses
  • Supporting you to reach competent level on the Professional Development Recognition Programme
  • Supporting and guiding you throughout the year
  • Facilitating employment into second year of practice within the DHB.
