Community Oral Health

In general, adults (18 years and older) in New Zealand are required to pay for their own dental care. Children and young people receive free dental care until their 18th birthday.

Waikato DHB provides the following funded, free services

  • Children 0 to 8 years old receive free dental care through community dental clinics.
  • Adolescents year 9 to their 18th birthday can receive free dental checks and decay repairs.

Emergency dental care for adults (18+ years of age)

Services are available for Community Service Card holders to access emergency dental care for relief of pain, toothache and infection.
